Going Petascale: Power Infrastructure

A look at the power cabling trays from the underside, in the power room.

The 88,000 square foot NPCF facility is able to receive a 24 megawatt feed from the University's Abbott power plant, which delivers four power cables directly into each compute node of Blue Waters. The power room mirrors the raised floor area on the first level. For security reasons, the transformer units that would normally sit outside of a data center facility are housed within the power room.

The 2 megawatt transformers are then cabled at specific points in the ceiling up to the power distribution units on the raised floor above. Two of the transformers are reserved for mechanical and electrical equipment as well as other data center space and office areas.
