How to Type the Angle Symbol (∠)

Here’s how to type the angle sign or symbol (∠) on various platforms, including Microsoft Word on a PC, Mac, and mobile devices.

No matter how you look at it, it’s easy to insert the angle sign or symbol (∠) into a document. Whether you’re using a Windows PC, a Mac, or an iOS or Android device, there are a number of convenient methods. 

Below, we’ll show you how to cut corners when typing the angle symbol.

How to Insert the Angle Symbol on a Windows PC

On a Windows PC, click to the place in your document where you would like to insert the angle symbol. Next, hold the Alt key and, using your numeric keypad, type the numbers 8736.  

If you plan on using the not equal symbol multiple times in a Microsoft Word document, you can set an AutoCorrect rule to automatically replace a word or phrase (such as “not equal”) with the symbol. First, copy the not equal symbol from this article: ∠. Next, search under the Tools tab for AutoCorrect options. In the replace field, choose a word or phrase (such as “angle”) and then paste the symbol in the with field. Finally, press add. 

How to Insert the Angle Symbol on a Mac

Find the angle symbol by going to your Mac’s Emoji and Symbols library. Either tap the Globe key or hold Control, Command, and Spacebar to open the Character Viewer. Next, enter “angle” into the search bar. Then double-click the angle symbol or highlight and drag the symbol into your document.

How to Insert the Angle Symbol on an iPhone or iPad

When you’re using an iPhone, the fastest way to type the angle symbol is by searching for “angle” in your emoji keyboard. Then click on the image that appears to include the symbol in your message or document.

The simplest and easiest way to insert the angle symbol on an Android device is by copy and pasting the symbol from this article: ∠.
