It wasn’t exactly a flip of a light switch, but it might as well have been, considering the pace of the industrywide changes forced by the COVID-19 pandemic. Over a period of a few weeks, swaths of countries’ populations around the world stopped going to their offices or schools. Instead, they are logging on to work or learn from their living room couches, bedrooms, and kitchen tables, all with hopes of slowing down the spread of COVID-19 and saving lives.

The first, most obvious question here at Data Center Knowledge (DCK) has been: How has this massive shift in the way people use the Internet affected the data centers and networks that make that shift possible? Is the infrastructure built to handle it? Are companies running it adequately prepared?

Our colleagues from DCK sister sites Dark Reading, InformationWeek, ITPro Today, and Network Computing, as well as colleagues at our sister research organization Omdia, have been asking what this new reality means for cybersecurity, enterprise IT, and the global enterprise technology marketplace.

In this special report by Informa Tech’s IT media and research brands, you’ll find the answers to these questions.

We explore how infrastructure teams behind some of the world’s most popular online services, which people have leaned on during the lockdown, have been weathering the unprecedented surge in demand. We also look at how enterprise data center operators and commercial data center providers have been changing their operating procedures to ensure the critical infrastructure they oversee continues humming uninterrupted for all of the people, businesses, and public sector organizations that now depend on it more than ever before.

How have IT organizations been adapting to this “new normal” of computing? What have they done in the short term to address new workloads, new system demands, and new ways of doing business? How have IT operations changed? Perhaps most importantly, what will be the long-term effects of this overnight shift in the computing paradigm?

The report provides a unique set of perspectives on the effects of the pandemic from all sides of the IT organization. And because it’s compiled by the editors of Informa Tech, you know the reporting is some of the most thorough and reliable on the Web.
