Closer Look: Dell's Project Copper ARM Server

Dell's Rafael Zamora demonstrates the Project Copper ARM server that drew quite a bit of attention at the recent OSCON event. The sled design, which fits into the Viking chassis, features a Server on Chip or SOC design, with 4 independent ARM servers and an embedded Layer 2 switch. Twelve sleds can fit into a three-unit chassis space. Industry folks are interested in this server because of its potential energy savings at high density. Zamora says that the electrical savings adds up to 50 percent less power used within the same real estate. Video runs 1:40.
