HP OpenStack Strategy: Solid Core, Extreme Composability - Bill Hilf knows a lot about vertical integration after spending 10 years at Microsoft. In his current role running cloud product strategy at HP, he knows enough to realize that vertical integration is not a good strategy for the company’s cloud business.

Foxconn Patents Solar-Powered Data Center Container - Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Foxconn Technology Group, which produces everything from Apple’s iPhone and Microsoft’s Xbox One to HP servers, has patented two data center containers, each with a different cooling system, and a system for powering containers with solar panels.

IBM SoftLayer Launches 12 Additional Cloud Data Centers - IBM has added 12 cloud data centers to the list of locations its SoftLayer services are now delivered out of. Nine of them are inside Equinix data centers.

Facebook Data Centers to Use TrendPoint Power Meters - Facebook is deploying power quality meters by Corona, California-based TrendPoint Systems across its data centers, the vendor announced Tuesday.
