News from the data center industry in February included innovative projects and alternative energy plans such as Google seeking approvals for satellite antennas in Iowa and Apple planning solar arrays. The news included announcements of a new data center projects for Apple in Oregon, and Nebraska seeking to land a $1 billion project in its state. There was also interest in stories on defense contractor Harris exiting the cloud business, Windows Azure getting hit with downtime and the total cost of Facebook's infrastructure amounting to $1 billion.
