Here’s a roundup of some of this week’s headlines from the data center and hosting industry:

Equinix selected by Hong Kong Mercantile Exchange. Equinix (EQIX) and Hong Kong Mercantile Exchange (HKMEx) announced that HKMEx is hosting its production core systems in the Equinix Hong Kong (HK1) International Business Exchange data center.  Having just received authorization for Automated Trading Services (ATS) HKMEx will deliver their standardized exchange-traded products on a transparent pricing platform to participants trading during Asia-Pacific market hours. “We have built an electronic trading system and technology infrastructure that are among the most advanced of any exchange in the Asia-Pacific region,” said Lieven Van den Brande, chief operating officer for Operations and Technology at HKMEx. “Equinix is one of the key contributors to our technology advantage as we bring commodities trading to a key Asian financial center that serves as the gateway to one of the fastest-growing and commodities-hungry nations in the world – China. Equinix will assist HKMEx to reach its high reliability goals.”

Software AG acquires Terracotta.  Software AG (SOW) announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Terracotta Inc. This gives Software AG a cloud solutions platform and leading edge in-memory technology , the caching standard for enterprise Java. With in-memory data access up to 1,000 times faster than database access, this will enable Software AG to increase revenue with existing and new customers through significantly larger business process excellence projects encompassing complex event processing, mobile technology, cloud distribution and virtualization. “The integration of Terracotta’s technology with our product portfolio is a major step in ensuring that our customers can fully benefit from the convergence of cloud computing, the mobile web, complex event processing and real-time, multi-party collaboration through unprecedented levels of performance and scalability,” said Software AG CTO Wolfram Jost. “Software AG is also committed to fully supporting Terracotta’s open source Communities in further developing this next generation in-memory technology.” The first combined product is expected to be released in the fourth quarter of 2011.

Tilera and Qosmos deliver network intelligence server. Tilera corporation, in collaboration with Qosmos announced the highest performance network intelligence Linux server solution, at a whopping 50 gigabits per-second. The solution combines Qosmos network intelligence software and a Tilera-based S2Q server, available from Quanta Computers to deliver up to eight TilePro64 processors into a 2U form factor. The turnkey platform provides intelligence on over 1000 protocols, multi-level metadata, port-independent classification and other value added applications. “With up to 512 cores, integrated 10 Gig ports, and low power consumption, this server is the highest performance and performance per-watt Linux box in the industry,” said Vijay Aggarwal, Vice President of Business Development at Tilera. “We are very happy to work with Qosmos, the premier deep packet inspection and network intelligence software vendor. Our joint solution is getting a lot of traction with software as a service vendors and government agencies, which are looking to enhance their security.”
