Keeping the servers humming is job one for data center. The uninterruptible power supply (UPS) plays a key role in this process. There are several choices for a UPS, including a centralized system with batteries to provide energy storage for "ride through" power when utility power fails. Other companies opt for a rotary UPS system using a flywheel for energy storage. Cisco Systems chose a rotary system when building its new data center in Allen, Texas and produced this video to provide an overview of the system and how it works. This video runs about 2 minutes.
