The Transaction Processing Performance Council (TPC) is a non-profit group that provides benchmarks that measure performance and pricing for server and database systems. The 20-year-old group is expanding the scope of its work to include energy efficiency data, providing a way for data center managers to compare price, performance and energy efficiency. In this video, TPC Energy Committee chair Mike Nikolaiev describes the group's plans for expanding its benchmarks to include power consumption. This video runs about 9 minutes.

The TPC was established in August 1988 by eight leading software and hardware companies, and now has 25 systems and software vendors among its members. The TPC currently has four active benchmarks: TPC-C and TPC-E for online transaction processing, TPC-H for decision support for ad hoc queries and TPC-App for business-to-business transactional Web services.
