Since its introduction within the automotive industry in the 1930’s through to its current widespread use in data centers, busway offers a high-density, flexible power distribution solution for many applications.
In recent years, the use of “open channel” busway has become commonplace, simplifying some aspects of configuration and installation. Open channel busway systems, now widely available from several manufacturers, offer the ability for the user to install the plug-in unit at any location along the busway…in theory.
However, in practice, many of these busway systems actually restrict installation on more than 17% of their length, limiting flexibility. They also can pose risk of electrical accidents because of both product and operating conditions that too often require live installation.
It is critical to design safety considerations directly into busway components that are likely to be installed live, to protect workers and equipment. In this white paper, learn more about how to protect your data center from unnecessary electrical risk with a new busway approach called integral coupling.
