EdgeConneX Is Coming to Belgium With a 20MW Data Center

American colocation provider EdgeConneX is building its first data center in Belgium.

The new campus in Ternat will initially offer 20MW of power capacity across four data halls, with the first racks available in the beginning of 2023.

EdgeConneX is the original edge data center operator, having trademarked the term back in 2014. It used to specialize in facilities located in close proximity to end-users, but has since considerably expanded its range of services.

Today, it bills itself as a provider of ‘hyperlocal to hyperscale data center solutions,’ with a network of more than 40 server farms across North America, South America and Europe – and coming to India next.

The company is also developing its own, patented flavor of DCIM software, called EdgeOS.

"Our legacy is to quickly and successfully deliver data center infrastructure anywhere our customers require," said Dick Theunissen, managing director for EMEA at EdgeConneX.

"As we continue to expand both our Edge platform and hyperscale campuses globally, our data center to be built in Brussels will give us capabilities to meet our customers' requirements for hyperlocal and hyperscale data center capacity in the vital and growing Benelux region."

In 2020, EdgeConneX was acquired by Swedish fund EQT Infrastructure IV from its previous owners, an investor group led by Providence Equity Partners.

A year later, EQT Infrastructure V co-invested in the company to provide funding for “additional growth and development opportunities” and “accretive M&A.”
