Conventional wisdom suggests that a single network vendor in your data center is best. However, a recent study by Gartner Research would disagree. In fact, this white paper from Gartner Research provides several compelling reasons as to how adding a second network vendor saves money and helps solidify operations.

With the shifting landscapes in enterprise networking, many data center operators are now considering a second vendor for their infrastructure. Gartner Research believes this is a positive trend. A second network infrastructure vendor, either as a direct alternative or, more commonly, as a provider for an alternative data center, provides three primary benefits:

  • Cost

  • Improved functional alignments with requirements

  • Improved operational processes

Timing is everything, and right now, many network suppliers are eager to be considered as an alternative vendor. For example, Juniper Networks is currently offering discounts up to 60% to customers who will consider adding them as an alternative supplier. This white paper from Gartner offers many insights into the benefits and strategies for leveraging a two-tier vendor strategy. Click here to download this free white paper.
