While many enterprises are moving their entire computing infrastructure to public cloud providers, many also find advantages for keeping certain workloads and data in-house, under their own control; thus, the need for a hybrid cloud architecture, which integrates “on-prem” infrastructure with public cloud services. Many of the enterprises who prefer to keep their infrastructure on-prem, in their own data centers, are doing so using network carriers and colocation service providers to interconnect with their preferred public cloud service provider(s).
The reasons for this strategy may vary, including regulations and privacy, performance, costs, security, legacy systems, avoiding service provider lock-in, etc. There are several hybrid cloud enabling options readily available from cloud service providers- both large and small (e.g. AWS Outposts, Azure Stack).
