• Cloud Computing & Why IT Matters

    July 30th, 2009 : Rich Miller

At the recent O’Reilly OSCON conference, Simon Wardley of Canonical Ltd. provides some context for the current discussions of cloud computing in an entertaining presentation titled “Cloud Computing: Why IT Matters.” Simon reviews the current confusion around definitions – yes, there are at least 67 of them – and many cloud technologies, and then moves beyond them to discuss the importance of the larger business trend. “It’s not about a specific technology,” he says. Canonical maintains the Ubuntu Linux distribution, which now includes Eucalyptus to allow companies to test-drive private clouds. This video runs about 14 minutes.

My concern with cloud computing is withe the myriad of issues that we will have to address. Security is paramount of these.
If this is truly the wave of the future, then how will some industries, such as engineering to jump on board. Access to design projects on one’s own sever feels more secure that having to access it from an unknown server halfway across the globe.
More of my concerns:
