LIVE! A Data Center Announcement!

Here’s yet another reason why the Internet is great: I was able to watch the press conference in Council Bluffs, Iowa to announce Google’s new Iowa data center as it happened. Omaha, Nebraska TV station KETV covered the event live and streamed the feed on its web site. Who’da thunk it? I’m a pretty big data center geek, but even I didn’t imagine there would be live TV coverage of data center facility announcements anytime soon.

This demonstrates several things: data centers are becoming a big deal in the communities where they are located, and this particular project is a particularly big deal in the Council Bluffs area (the Omaha market is nearby).
