Data Center Links: Chiquita Hosts With Peak 10

Around the data center web: Chiquita Brands selects Peak 10 to host its infrastructure, Telx connects to Brazil via submarine cable, Colt expands network in Germany.

Here’s our review of some of this week’s noteworthy links for the data center industry:

Peak 10 selected by Chiquita. Peak 10 announced it has signed Chiquita Brands, a leading international marketer and distributor of high-quality fresh and value-added food products. Chiquita recently relocated its corporate headquarters to Charlotte, North Carolina and its infrastructure will be hosted in Peak 10's new North Charlotte facility. Built in the University Research Park, phase one of Peak 10's 62,000 square foot facility is 14,000 square feet. “We are excited to have Chiquita as one of our newest customers,” said Pat O’Brien, vice president and general manager of Peak 10 Charlotte. “The nature of Chiquita’s business required their mission critical infrastructure to have a reliable, full-service IT partner that has the breadth and depth to support its global operations. Our new, best-in-class data center facility, geographic diversity, and 24/7 support from our IT experts supply Chiquita with the multiple levels of redundancy it needs to serve customers worldwide.”

Telx secures new US connections to Brazil.  Telx announced that Seaborn Networks, the developer and operator of the first direct submarine cable between the New York metro area and Sao Paulo, Seabras-1, is establishing new gateways to Brazil in several of Telx’s NYC metro area facilities. Seabras-1 gateways will operate out of Telx’s soon to be completed flagship facility, NJR3, in Clifton New Jersey, along with its NYC1 facility at 60 Hudson Street and NYC2 facility, both in New York City. “Partnering with Telx in the New York metro area increases our ability to offer widespread access to our US – Brazil network from the major points of presence in New York and New Jersey when Seabras-1 enters service in Q1 of 2015,” said Larry Schwartz, CEO of Seaborn Networks. “Telx’s datacenters provide us with high performance connectivity to a broad selection of telecommunications carriers in major market locations.”

Colt expands network in Germany.  Colt announced that it is connecting an additional seven German cities to its high-capacity network, including Kiel, Schwerin, Magdeburg, Erfurt, Jena, Saarbucken and Bamberg. Additionally the company will add a route via a new point of presence in Saarbrucken that goes from London to Brussels, Luxemburg, and Frankfurt. The network expansion and newly connected cities will enable organizations to take advantage of better connectivity to both the German and European markets. "The extension of our network is a result of a clear increase in demand for dedicated data, voice and managed services, as well as higher bandwidth requirements in the new regions," said Christian Muller, Director, Commercial Strategy CEE, Nordics and Global at Colt. "Businesses in Germany are increasingly connected across Europe and therefore require a high performing and reliable connection. Thanks to the extension of our already significant local presence in Germany, we can provide this to even more customers, who will benefit from the end-to-end control of our services and one European-wide SLA."
