European data center provider Colt announced that it has  signed a 10-year agreement with Phoenix, a specialist IT Services company, to meet growing demand from Phoenix's sales partners for secure, cost effective and energy efficient data centers. The deal is evidence of growing interest in modular deployments by service providers.

Phoenix chooses Colt

Phoenix will occupy a 500 square meter (5,400 square feet) Modular Data Center within Colt's London-3 facility.  The company will be given its own mechanical and electrical plant demarcation and complete security control of its space. "We have been looking to expand our data centre footprint for some time and the combination of time-to-delivery, high energy efficiency and quality of operation set Colt's Modular Data Centre apart," said Paul Parrish, Managing Director of Phoenix IT. "In addition the solution's scalability provides us with an offering that will enable us to remain highly competitive and rapidly deliver on changing market demands."

"This agreement demonstrates Colt's leadership position in the market," said Bernard Geoghegan, Executive Vice President at Colt.  "Customers like Phoenix are increasingly recognising that the Modular Data Centre's unique design provides a flexible, energy efficient solution that can expand to support a rapidly growing business with changing energy, space and power demands."

It has been a big year for modular data centers so far and Colt continues to see interest from customers. Colt began its modular offering about a year ago and touted the ability to deliver it in four months.  Last month at the Data Centres Europe conference the company introduced a refined version that offers a greater variety of sizes and configurations.  Colt offers over 120 design variations for their modular data center and will deliver it to either a Colt or customer-owned site.
