Earlier today we posted an April Fool's Day story about Microsoft using its Kinect gaming controller to manage its data center infrastructure. The gag was that it would be far-fetched to actually use the Kinect to manage data center assets. Or so we thought. Several alert readers pointed out that a similar application already exists. Nicholas Weaver of EMC has created an "Interactive Cloud" program that allows him to use the Kinect to control a VSphere environment and use Vmotion to move a virtual server between clouds. Here's a video demo:
The idea grew out of a tweet from of BlueShift. Weaver picked up on the idea and brought it to life. It's amazing how the Kinect has spurred the imagination of so many technologists. Sometimes real life is stranger and cooler than you expect.
