Improving a data center's energy efficiency can be tricky in a colocation center filled with customers. At the recent Data Center Energy Efficiency Summit sponsored by the Silicon Valley Leadership Group, Jim Kennedy of RagingWire Enterprise Solutions presented a case study detailing an efficiency project at the company's 200,000 square foot colocation facility in Sacramento. RagingWire installed a wireless sensor system from SynapSense, which it used to monitor conditions as it raised its data center temperature, which in turn enabled savings in the cooling system. Kennedy said RagingWire expects the measures to save the company 2.1 million kilowatt hours a year on its electricity bill. This video runs about 11 minutes, and the slides and presentation are available at the SVLG web site.
