How do you run a "lights out" data center with no human staff on hand? At Germany's DLR National Satellite Data Center, they use robots to automate the extensive archiving duties for the service, which stores earth observation photos from satellites and airplanes. Here's a brief YouTube video from DLR showing the robot at work in the data center:
Because of high storage requirements and the increasing volume of data , storage is managed by fully automated archiving systems. DFD's networked robot archive currently holds 60 terabytes of data, with a capacity of 1,000 terabytes of data.
