Data Center Pros Attend Data Center World

AFCOM's fall Data Center World conference kicked off in Las Vegas Monday at the Mirage, with more than 800 data center managers on hand to attend the event. Below are photos showing highlights from the conference.

Scott Noteboom, Yahoo! VP and Head of Global Data Center Infrastructure, presented about the evolution of Yahoo's high-efficiency data center projects.

The audience was standing-room-only for Noteboom's session on how Yahoo is now regarding data centers as "data factories" not specialized "castles." He emphasized studying other industrial facilities, such as factories, to see how the facility itself was used to support and optimize business activities.

Data Center World registration area offers a place to connect and network with others.

Opening keynote speaker Subodh K. Kulkarni, Chief Technology Officer, Imation, presented on the impact of the current data "tsunami" is having on security. He covered areas of concern such as physical security, encryption/authentication, malware and challenges presented by cloud computing.

Dr. Kulkarni answered questions from the crowd at the keynote session Monday.
