DataSite Orlando will open a 130,000 square-foot purpose-built data center in a former AT&T site in Orlando, Florida.

DataSite Orlando will open the first phase of a 130,000 square-foot purpose-built data center in Orlando, Florida which will begin installing tenants in September. DataSite Orlando, which is owned by Burges Property Co., is investing more than $26 million to upgrade the former AT&T facility. The company has hired Total Site Solutions to perform the upgrades and complete the first phase of mechanical and electrical infrastructure by the end of this month.

“Data center space is very scarce in Central Florida, and the size of this facility makes it a unique asset for our community,” said Rob Wilson, Director of Sales and Marketing for DataSite. “By expanding the infrastructure base for Central Florida’s high tech sector, DataSite Orlando will be a valuable tool in growing existing business and attracting new business to the region.”

Total Site Solutions is a unit of Fortress International, a holding company that has acquired a number of companies that design and build mission-critical facilities. TSS will also provide facility maintenance services for DataSite Orlando.

E Solutions Corporation of Tampa has finished an expansion and upgrade of its data center space, which tripled in February with the acquisition of Genuity, Inc.’s Tampa assets. Since then, E Solutions has invested in renovations and upgrades to meet the Uptime Institute’s requirements for Tier III classification. The company said the improvements will help it pursue business with companies with high-availability requirements such as financial, healthcare and news organizations, as well as technology-based and VoIP companies, emergency and other government agencies.

The firm’s marquee clients include St. Louis Cardinals, who just won the 2006 World Series. “We are happy to know that our intellectual capital is hosted and protected in one of the nation’s premier hardened facilities,” said Cardinals Vice President and Assistant General Manager John Mozeliak. “E Solutions has been a trusted development and hosting partner since 2003, and we are glad to be counted among the current clients in their new data center.”

“E Solutions’ new facility is truly a bunker and a testament to their continued dedication to customer security and service,” said Martin Quessenberry, Director of New Media, St. Pete Times Forum. “We are truly delighted to have our Internet properties, ‘Arenavision’ live arena camera, and website hosted in the premier data center and hosting facility in Tampa Bay.”

To prepare its newest data center for occupancy, E Solutions spent eight months replacing telco switch gear, installing new N+1 Parallel UPS systems, enhancing the power grid to provide 13.8 kV utility input voltage, and upgrading the cooling systems. The improvements included seven 20-ton Liebert Air Conditioning units with redundant glycol loops, and two 800kW Caterpillar generators.

“Our renovations focused on re-engineering our redundant power distribution paths and outfitting the data center with new environmental and monitoring systems necessary for a level of redundancy, high-availability and system integrity that is second to none in the region,” said E Solutions CEO Richard Nicholas. “Combine that with our physical location on Tampa’s two high-priority power grids, a concrete reinforced bunker surrounding the exterior of the data center, Kevlar-reinforced walls, and a facility designed to withstand major hurricane force winds, and our facilities are physically able to withstand man-made or natural disasters.

E Solutions is a Tampa-based hosting and application development firm that creates and hosts software solutions that enable clients ranging from global Fortune 100 firms to mid-sized and small businesses.
