Marvell Launches Xelerated Network Processors

Marvell (MRVL) announced the availability of a new generation of Xelerated AX and HX families of network processor (NPU) and traffic management solutions optimized specifically to enable a new class of efficient, flexible and scalable network infrastructure. The fourth-generation Xelerated product line is offered in 28nm process technology, and are designed to enable service providers to rapidly introduce and scale out new services and deployment models while maintaining reliable user experience and lowest total cost of ownership. The chips feature up to 400 Gbps wire-speed programmable packet processing, carrier-grade hierarchical quality of service traffic management, and up to 480 Gbps total interfaces with multiple 100 Gbps support. "Service providers are transforming their networks to a unified, converged wireless and wireline infrastructure in order to meet the consumer’s appetite for the always on, always connected lifestyle," said Ramesh Sivakolundu, vice president for the Connectivity, Servers and Infrastructure Business Unit (CSIBU) at Marvell Semiconductor. "Our vision for efficiency is to enable the greatest service density and the fastest service velocity with the fewest number of disparate networking equipment. We believe the new Xelerated family of solutions delivers the perfect marriage of programmability and scalability into solutions for our customers as we uniquely position ourselves to a new generation of software defined storage, networking, mobile and compute platforms being designed today."

Juniper boosts SDN-Ready Universal Edge Portfolio

Juniper Networks (JNPR) announced enhancements to the SDN-ready MX Series 3D Universal Edge Router portfolio that significantly expands system capacity, subscriber bandwidth and service performance for the world's broadest family of edge routers.  line-card enhancements to its MX Series pack more power in the same chassis, enabling per-slot bandwidth up to 520 Gbps and offer hardware support for as many as 128,000 subscribers. Juniper also introduced new switch fabric module that more than doubles the capacity of several key MX 3D platforms. The MX Series allows service providers and cable operators to further improve operational efficiently by consolidating appliances and applications directly on the router. "Juniper Networks MX Series 3D continues to evolve to meet emerging business and technical requirements from the service provider edge and aggregation network to the data-center and cloud," said Nav Chander, research manager at IDC. The ability to add system capacity, subscriber density and virtualized network services to new and installed MX Series routers extends the value of the platform and enables providers to fully monetize their networks with innovative services." Juniper announced that XO Communications has deployed the MX2020 3D Universal Edge Router and the PTX5000 Packet Transport Router.

EdgeCast streams Indianapolis Colts around the world

EdgeCast announced that the Indianapolis Colts have selected EdgeCast Networks CDN to serve its digital media to the Colts community. EdgeCast’s live streaming capabilities help the Colts deliver premium content across multiple screens, regardless of device or location, with superior performance. By providing this content, the Colts have seen an increase in website traffic, as viewers’ engagement and brand loyalty increase and they shift from third-party media outlets to Colts.com and other dedicated properties. “Providing a steady stream of high quality content to fans is a key part of our engagement strategy. We truly believe that this is a year round sport,” said Stephanie Pemberton, the Colts’ senior director of marketing. “We understand that the actual season happens within a span of a few months, but keeping our fans engaged year round is so important.”
