Deals, deals, deals! And we don't mean at the mall. Acquisitions were the theme this week as the largest players in the tech sector announced end-of-year purchases. Here's a look at this week's top stories:

ICE, NYSE to Merge: What About the Data Centers? - In the latest consolidation among stock exchanges, The Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) will acquire NYSE Euronext for about $8.2 billion, the two companies said today. NYSE Euronext operates the New York Stock Exchange, as well as a global network of data centers powering its shift to an electronic trading platform. That includes two immense, starte-of-the-art data centers that NYSE Euronext has built in New Jersey and London.

PEER 1 Bought by Cogeco in $635 Million Deal - IBM announced it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire StoredIQ Inc., a privately held company based in Austin, Texas. Adding to IBM’s big data initiatives the StoredIQ capabilities will help clients respond more efficiently to litigation and regulations, dispose of information that has outlived its purpose and lower data storage costs.

Red Hat Buys ManageIQ in Hybrid Cloud Play - Red Hat (RHT) announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire ManageIQ, a leading provider of enterprise cloud management and automation solutions that enable organizations to deploy, manage and optimize private clouds, virtualized infrastructures and virtual desktops.

Cisco To Acquire BroadHop, Dell Buying Credant - Cisco announced its intent to acquire Denver, Colorado-based BroadHop, a provider of next-generation policy control and service management technology for carrier networks worldwide. Meanwhile, Dell agreed to buy data protection specialist Credant Technologies.

GI Partners Acquires Two Fully-Leased Data Centers - Earlier this month, GI Partners acquired Lightwave Corporate Center, a data center and office property fully leased to cloud and managed services provider American Internet Services, and San Diego Gas & Electric Co., a public utility . GI Partners followed it up with the acquisition of Liberty Park at Tysons in Northern Virginia, a property that is principally occupied by the GSA on a long term lease in support of a mission-critical application.
