Networking Vendors Roll Out News at AWS Event
News from networking vendors is being released in conjunction with the Amazon Web Services (AWS) re: Invent conference that is underway this week (Nov. 27-29) in Las Vegas. The first-ever global customer and partner event covers all things in the Amazon cloud, and while much of it is sold out, AWS Live will stream talks such as those from CEO Jeff Bezos and CTO Werner Vogels. The re: Invent online conversation can be followed on Twitter hashtag #reinvent.
Riverbed and AWS Collaborate
Riverbed (RVBD) announced that Riverbed and AWS have collaborated to deliver cloud performance and data protection solutions to enterprise customers. Riverbed’s WAN optimization, cloud storage gateways, application delivery and web application firewall security solutions give enterprise customers solutions for protection of mission critical data and access to applications and data deployed in the public cloud. Riverbed products available in the AWS include Cloud Steelhead WAN optimization, Whitewater cloud storage gateway, Stingray Traffic Manager, Stingray Aptimizer and Stingray Application Firewall.
Third-party researchers indicate this Riverbed portfolio is headed in the right direction. “ESG research indicates that both enterprise and mid-market organizations are increasing their use of public clouds like Amazon EC2 and S3,” said Bob Laliberte, senior analyst, Enterprise Strategy Group. ”However, to ensure these cloud services meet or exceed SLAs, organizations will require technologies to address core performance challenges associated with distance and latency. Partnerships like the one between Amazon and Riverbed serve as an example of how organizations can mitigate the risk from these challenges and enable fast, reliable, secure, and simple access to the public cloud.”
The AWS Report recently talked with Riverbed Vice President of Global Alliances Venugopal Pai about its evolution from WAN performance to application performance and now to data center performance and the addition of Riverbed products in the AWS Marketplace.
Vyatta Network OS Available On AWS
Vyatta, a Brocade Company, announced the availability of its software-based networking and security solution, Vyatta Network OS, on the Amazon Web Services Marketplace. Vyatta was acquired by Brocade (BRCD) earlier in the month. Now available in the AWS Marketplace, the Vyatta Network OS was delivered as an Amazon Machine Image (AMI) for the last year, and it has enabled customers to build secure multi-tier, multi-location architectures that adapt to dynamic business needs.
“Enterprises interested in hybrid cloud environments often hit a barrier when they cannot replicate their hardware-centric infrastructure in cloud environments,” said Dan Tuchler, senior director of Marketing and Product Management at Vyatta. “Making Vyatta’s solution available on AWS Marketplace provides enterprises a cloud-ready software appliance that is capable of replicating current data center infrastructures with one click.”
F5 BIG-IP Virtual Edition Is Available For AWS
F5 Networks (FFIV) introduced a BIG-IP virtual edition for AWS, which leverages F5’s complete portfolio of BIG-IP products for the AWS cloud. The edition addresses organizations’ demand to extend their data center and applications to AWS, maintaining enterprise-class reliability, scale, security, and performance.
“Enterprise customers have come to rely on BIG-IP’s strategic awareness that provides important information on how applications, resources, and users interact in order to successfully deliver applications,” said Siva Mandalam, Director of Product Management and Product Marketing, Cloud and Virtualization Solutions at F5. “Since BIG-IP for AWS will have equivalent features to physical BIG-IP devices, customers can apply the same level of control for their applications in AWS. With BIG-IP running in enterprise data centers and on AWS, customers can establish secure tunnels, burst to the cloud, and control the application from end to end.”
