e-shelter recently opened this data center in Rüsselsheim, Germany.
As people stateside trampled one another to save a few bucks on Black Friday deals, Germany's e-shelter was busy opening a new facility in Russelsheim, Germany. The data center is approximately 4,500 square meters (about 48,437 square feet) and dubbed "Datacenter Frankfurt 3."
This is the company’s third data center in the Rhine-Main region, with a campus in Frankfurt-Rodelheim as well as a colo facility in another location in the region. Construction of Datacenter Frankfurt 3 took about a year and the opening was on schedule.
The new facility in Russelsheim is connected to the company’s main Frankfurt Campus via fiber. With this design, e-shelter focused on energy efficiency. It uses fresh air cooling through a hybrid exterior air cooling system, which saves an estimated 30 percent more efficient than a conventional cooling systems.
The new facility gives e-shelter sizeable space serving a major European Internet Infrastructure hub. Frankfurt Rhine-Main is the second largest metropolitan region in Germany, with a total population exceeding 5.8 million. It’s named is derived from two rivers, Rhine and Main, as well as the city Frankfurt am Main.
"Thanks to its importance as a financial centre and international internet hub, Frankfurt is the leading place for DC-space in Europe and therefore our most important market,” said Rupprecht Rittweger, Founder and managing director of e-shelter. “Our expansion in this region means we are not only able to respond to the increasing levels of demand, we can also offer our customers locations that are interconnected." Horst Weterfeld, State Secretary at the Hesse Ministry of Finance and Commissioner for E-Government and Information Technology, as well Mayor of the town of Russelsheim, Patrick Burghardt, were on hand for the opening.
Horst Weterfeld, CIO in the State of Hesse, spoke of the importance in staying on the technological forefront,
"With the IT systems of the State of Hesse, we have set ourselves the goal of taking on a leading role in Europe in this field. The company e-shelter sets standards with the performance and energy efficiency of its data centres, and is also a good example of the optimisation of IT infrastructures."
E-shelter was established in 2000, and has clients across many sectors such as financial services, telecom operators, and IT service providers. It has additional locations in Berlin, Munich, Hamburg and Zurich, in addition to its three locations in Rhine-Main.
