Most New York Data Centers Back on Utility Power  – By Monday, Con Edison had restored utility power to most of New York’s major data center hubs, bringing a sense of stability after an intense week of downtime and maintenance challenges in the wake of SuperStorm Sandy. Key data center buildings at 60 Hudson Street and 111 8th Avenue were back on utility power, as were 121 Varick and 325 Hudson Street.
SunGard Data Center Takes in Flood Victims  – When SuperStorm Sandy struck, the SunGard business continuity center in Carlstadt, N.J. opened its doors and served as a refuge for more than 100 residents flooded out of their homes in nearby Moonachie, offering food, shelter and medical attention.
CoreSite Virginia Project Reflects Data Center Construction Boom  – A new CoreSite Realty project in Northern Virginia caps a flurry of announcements of new data center builds, which will collectively boost data center construction and bring significant new supply onto the market over the next year. Here’s an overview of what’s coming.
Open Compute Wants to Make Biodegradable Servers  – Are you ready for servers that you can put in the compost heap? The Open Compute Project has challenged students at Purdue University to develop a biodegradable server chassis, making data center technology more sustainable.
NetApp Is Newest Entry in Portland’s Growing Silicon Forest  - NetApp is the latest company to open a new data center in the “Silicon Forest.” On Friday, the storage vendor opened the doors of its new facility in Hillsboro, Oregon, which will serve as the hub for NetApp’s global customer support monitoring and corporate IT services.
