What does a cloud data center look like, when viewed from the clouds? The massive expanse of the new Facebook data center in Lulea, Sweden is on display is this aerial video from Cascade Media in Lulea, which was shared today by Facebook. This footage is from August, so the site is surrounded by green trees, rather than the wintry landscape we've seen in photos of this project. The facility in Lulea will be Facebook’s first data center outside the United States, supporting the rapid global growth of its users. The 27,000 square meter (290,000 square foot) first phase will be completed late this year and begin supporting traffic in the first half of 2013. The cool weather in Lulea will allow Facebook to use outside air to cool the tens of thousands of servers that will occupy the new campus. This video runs 1 minute.

For a video overview of some of the technology that will live inside the Lulea data center, see Data Center Knowledge's video of Facebook's Knox Storage Design Prototype, Windmill Server and Open Rack enclosure.

For additional video of other data centers, check out our DCK video archive and the Data Center Videos channel on YouTube.
