T5 Heads for Oregon With New Facility in Hillsboro

T5 Data Centers is the latest data center developer to pursue a major facility in Oregon. The Atlanta-based company has acquired a 15-acre parcel of land in Hillsboro, Oregon and is finalizing design for construction of a 200,000 square foot wholesale data center.

Oregon's data center boom continues. T5 Data Centers is the latest data center developer to pursue a major facility in the state. The Atlanta-based company has acquired a 15-acre parcel of land in Hillsboro, Oregon and is finalizing design for construction of a 200,000 square foot wholesale data center.

The project, known as T5@Portland, is the fourth data center project to come to Hillsboro over the last 12 months, following facilities for NetApp, Fortune Data Centers and Adobe Systems.

The Hillsboro area is known as Silicon Forest due to its high concentration of technology companies (including a major Intel campus) which has resulted in a ready supply of skilled IT workers. The area is also rich in trans-Pacific fiber, due to the presence of multiple undersea cable landings near Portland.

Leveraging Free Cooling

The T5 data center will deliver 12.25 megawatts of critical power, with a power density up to 200 watts-per-square-foot. Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2013, with customer data halls delivered in early fall 2013. The data center design is optimized to take into account the cool climate, which makes Oregon an ideal location for using outside air to cool servers, which offers potentially huge energy savings for data center operators. The data center will include high-efficiency, indirect evaporative cooling with custom air handlers.

“The Pacific Northwest is a well-established destination for enterprise users looking for safe, efficient data center solutions” said Pete Marin, President of T5. “Hillsboro offers the best combination of low taxes, low power costs, a reliable infrastructure and easy access for out-of-region companies. We anticipate the T5@Portland data center to be a showcase for responsible development, and will demonstrate to customers that we can design and engineer to embrace energy efficiencies while continuing to offer our clients the resiliency and uptime they require.”

The new project continues a period of active growth for T5 Data Centers, which now offers wholesale or enterprise data center space in the Dallas, Los Angeles, Atlanta and Charlotte markets.
