Internap (INAP) this week opened its latest data center in the Redondo Beach area of Los Angeles. Located convenient to the I-405 and 15 minutes from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), the company-controlled facility has been designed from the ground up to meet rapidly-growing enterprise application and power consumption demands, providing the highest levels of scalability, redundancy and energy efficiency.

With 55,000 square feet when fully deployed, Internap’s Los Angeles facility is expected to receive a SOC2 Type II independent audit report. The facility's redundant electrical infrastructure allows for up to 12kW per rack of critical power loads.

“Our new location in Redondo Beach delivers state-of-the art data center services and design for organizations in Southern California and beyond,” said Mike Higgins, senior vice president of data center services at Internap. “As our eleventh company-owned facility, it reflects our commitment to building out a geographic footprint of premium data centers in key markets, with the flexibility and performance to meet diverse customer requirements.”

According to Tier 1 Research, by 2013 the utilization rate for multi-tenant data centers in the Los Angeles market is expected to reach 94 percent.

The Los Angeles data center will serve organizations across a range of industries, including media and entertainment, gaming and financial services. Facility features include:

  • Disaster preparedness: Seismic-reinforced building to a 1.5 importance factor.
  • Advanced resiliency: N+1 design with concurrent maintainability ensures maximum uptime.
  • Green design: Purpose-built to achieve LEED Platinum and Green Globes certification, the facility was designed from the ground up for energy efficiency. Energy-saving techniques include modular UPS design, liquid cooling and outdoor air economizers, among others.
  • Customer amenities: Fully-equipped office and conference space, lounge with espresso bar, DIRECTV and Xbox 360 – to address the increased amount of time customers spend on-site.
