The cold temperatures in Lulea, Sweden make it easy for the local community to greet the new Facebook data center with this huge ice sculpture of the “Like” symbol. Our story about the mix of frigid temperatures and servers and IT equipment, which is not always a positive combination, was very popular with DCK readers in August.

Despite the hot weather in August throughout the U.S., Data Center Knowledge readers were keeping cool by reading about Facebook’s servers traveling to cooler regions above the Arctic Circle and Amazon’s new cold storage product, dubbed Glacier. There was also coverage of new developments in the data center marketplace, such as the investment J.P. Morgan’s made in its data centers and VMWare’s tools for “Software Defined Data Centers” and many more news items. Here are the most popular stories on Data Center Knowledge for August 2012. Enjoy!
