AMD recently launched the FirePro line of graphics cards for the workstation, and now it has launched server graphics cards for powering graphics workloads in the data center.
Powerful Graphics Processors
AMD launched the FirePro S9000 and S7000 dual and single-slot server graphics cards for compute, virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) and workstation graphics deployments in data centers. Reducing power consumption by up to 95 percent at idle, the new cards are equipped with intelligent AMD PowerTune and ZeroCore Power technologies.

The AMD FirePro S9000 and S7000 server graphics bring improved VDI densities while supporting virtualization technologies from Citrix, Microsoft and VMware, making it possible to install multiple graphics cards in a server and support multiple users remotely. Both server graphics cards offer a flexible and scalable solution capable of supporting remote desktop deployments; render farms, traditional workstation graphics applications, and high performance computing (HPC) implementations that require massive floating point calculations.
The S9000 provides 3.23 TFLOPs of compute performance with 6GB GDDR5 frame buffer and optimized power management. The S7000 features 154 GB per second of memory bandwidth and 2.4 TFLOPs of compute performance.
New Chief Graphics architect
AMD also announced that John Gustafson has joined the company as senior fellow and chief product architect, in the Graphics Business Unit. In this role, Gustafson will set the technical vision for the AMD graphics business unit, driving the technology roadmap and platform for the AMD Radeon and AMD FirePro product lines as well as new technology planning and execution of business objectives.
