New York is getting a faster on-ramp to the Amazon Web Services cloud. CoreSite Realty said Tuesday that AWS Direct Connect service will now be available in CoreSite's New York data center at 32 Avenue of the Americas. The Direct Connect service allows customers in select data centers around the globe to establish a private network connection to the Amazon cloud that can reduce network costs and increase throughput. The service will make it easier for hundreds of enterprise customers to access Amazon’s cloud services.

Amazon cited growing customer demand for the AWS cloud from digital content communities, financial services organizations, and managed service providers. CoreSite customers can access AWS Direct Connect via a standard, single-mode fiber 1 Gbps or 10 Gbps Ethernet cross connection or Any2 internet exchange connection, ordered via the MyCoreSite online customer portal.

"CoreSite is pleased to be the first data center provider in the New York metro region to provide direct, on-site access to one of the world's largest cloud offerings in Amazon Web Services," said Jarrett Appleby, COO of CoreSite. "CoreSite's cloud computing data center ecosystems and collaboration with Amazon demonstrate CoreSite's strong growth in this ecosystem and increased value to our customer base, with access to cloud offerings of all sizes only a simple cross connect away."

Amazon launched Direct Connect in August in a major Equinix connectivity hub in Ashburn, Virginia. In January Amazon expanded the service to CoreSite's One Wilshire facility in Los Angeles, the TelecityGroup’s Sovereign House data center in London, and to Equinixfacilities in Tokyo and Singapore. Amazon launched Direct Connect in August in a major Equinix connectivity hub in Ashburn, Virginia. Equinix, Telecity and CoreSite are currently the only data center providers offering the Direct Connect service.
