Power Outage Affects Amazon Customers - A power outage early Friday at an Amazon Web Services data center in northern Virginia knocked some customers offline. Among the sites affected were Heroku, Pinterest, Quora and HootSuite, along with a host of smaller sites. Amazon confirmed the power outage on its Service Health Dashboard, but did not offer details on the root cause of the power outage.

Hawking is First User of SGI 'Big Brain' Supercomputer - Calling your product the “Big Brain Computer” is a heady claim. It helps if you have Dr. Stephen Hawking say that the product can help unlock the secrets of the universe.That’s the scenario for UV2 “Big Brain” computer from SGI, which is being unveiled in time for next week’s International Supercomputing Conference.

OVH Deploys "Container Cube" Data Center - OVH has opened a new data center in Strasbourg, France that recreates many elements of its innovative the cube design using stacks of shipping containers housing servers. The facility features 12 containers, which are stacked three-high in two rows.

Michigan Unveils First HP EcoPOD Modular Unit - This week the University of Michigan will unveil its new EcoPod, part of a campus project to boost its high performance computing (HPC) projects. Michigan was the first customer announced by HP when it launched the EcoPOD, which features a “double-wide” design that joins two 40-foot containers.

DataBank to Lease Dallas Site From Digital Realty - DataBank's new north Dallas data center will be housed in a stand-alone facility at Digital Realty’s Datacenter Park Dallas campus in Richardson that will accommodate up to 60,000 square feet of technical space.
