Here’s our review of some of this week’s noteworthy links for the data center industry:
Juniper advances Mykonos security software . Juniper Networks (JNPR) announced major platform enhancements to its Mykonos Web Security Software, which uses Intrusion Deception Technology to defend against web-based threats in real-time. Thirty new features and enhancements strengthen protection against a wider range of attackers and hacking techniques, simplify configuration for security administrators, and boost scalability to help ensure holistic protection as traffic volumes increase. New features include preventing brute-force authentication, defending against directory traversal, and integration of third-party software vulnerability protection. ”Web-based threats have become a major concern and companies require a proactive solution with real-time prevention to augment traditional-network security defenses,” said David Koretz, vice president and general manager, Mykonos Software, a Juniper Networks Company. ”Mykonos is the first company to detect hackers during the reconnaissance phase of an attack. We can track, profile and, most importantly, respond to an attacker before the damage is done.”
Cariden introduces MATE Live . Cariden Technologies announced the availability of MATE Live, a solution that combines predictive network analytics with easy access to current and historical data for use in operational applications, such as health maintenance and congestion mitigation. MATE Live builds upon MATE Collector’s ability to discover and assimilate critical network information, and adds to the portfolio of products: MATE Design for planning and traffic management, and MATE Collector for automated and continuous discovery of network data. “Maintenance is a never-ending process—between backbone and service maintenance, the pressure on operations departments is very high,” said Sarah Wallace, Analyst at Heavy Reading. “With telecom and cable customers demanding increasingly stringent service level agreements, and further profits at stake in inter-provider peering, service providers have to be more nimble with more complex data than ever before in order to stay competitive. Platforms such as the MATE portfolio, and applications such as MATE Live in particular, can play key roles in how providers address their time-critical management needs.” Along with MATE Live, Cariden announced new features for MATE Design and MATE Collector in version 5.2. All products are available now.
VMware vSphere achieves Common Criteria EAL4+. VMware (VMW) announced that VMware vSphere 5.0 has achieved Common Criteria certification at Evaluation Assurance Level 4 (EAL4+) under the Common Criteria Evaluation and Certification Scheme (CCS). Common Criteria is an international set of guidelines (ISO 15408) that provides a common framework for evaluating security features and capabilities of Information Technology (IT) security products, and EAL4+ is the highest assurance level that is recognized globally by all signatories under the Common Criteria Recognition Agreement (CCRA). To facilitate the successful achievement of the Common Criteria certification, VMware worked with Corsec Security, Inc., and CGI’s accredited Common Criteria lab to complete the evaluation. ”Cloud computing is a top priority for CIOs of government IT organizations,” said Aileen Black, vice president, public sector, VMware. “With VMware vSphere 5.0, government organizations can trust that they have a solid and reliable platform to achieve the benefits of cloud computing while maintaining the security, control and efficiency they require.”
