Roundup: Fusion-io, Oracle, Teradata

Fusion-io (FIO) powers Internet radio from Pandora Media (P), Oracle (ORCL) selected by CISDI for cloud platform, Teradata (TDC) delivers SAS high performance analytics appliance.

Here’s our review of some of this week’s noteworthy links for the data center industry:

Fusion-io powers Pandora.  Fusion-io (FIO) announced that internet radio service Pandora Media, Inc. (P) has deployed Fusion ioMemory to cache its music library, dramatically increasing server performance. ioMemory empowers Pandora's data center, which features fewer, smaller, lower-power servers for reduced server sprawl and energy consumption. With ioMemory integrated into its servers and the Fusion ioSphere management system, Pandora was able to replace existing disk-based content servers that cached its most frequently requested songs in the company’s music archive. “Pandora is a pinnacle of innovation in online content delivery and its rapid growth had it facing similar challenges to other successful web leaders – scaling rapidly to meet booming growth,” said Neil Carson, Chief Technology Officer, Fusion-io. When listeners tune in, they expect music without interruption, so Pandora’s team was committed to architecting a modern data center that would continue to deliver as the company grows. With Fusion-io, Pandora is able to meet these demands with a solution that uses far less energy, costing less for both Pandora and our planet.” Fusion-io also announced that NoSQL database leader Couchbase is optimizing to run Couchbase Server native on ioMemory through the Fusion-io software development kit. Couchbase will integrate its NoSQL database directly with this persistent memory through the Fusion-io Key-Value API, and will offer the code to the community as open source.

Oracle selected by CISDI for cloud platform.  Oracle (ORCL) announced that CISDI Info has selected Exalogic Elastic Cloud and Oracle Exadata Database Machine for its cloud computing platform. CISDI provides information solutions to engineering and construction industries and iron and steel customers. The CISDI Cloud Computing Platform is a cost effective information system allowing enterprises to demonstrate and manage their design results on the design service platform. The new cloud computing platform is designed to provide access to the shared computing resources pool in a self-service, dynamic, elastic and measurable way. “Regardless of whether we construct private clouds, public clouds or mixed clouds, Oracle’s engineered systems are the best choice for industry-leading technology,” Edwin Lo, Senior Vice President and Managing Director Oracle Greater China, said. “We are glad to see that Oracle has an opportunity to work with CISDI to establish its cloud computing platform. We can continue to provide powerful business support for more local companies with our innovative products.”

Teradata delivers SAS high performance analytics appliance.  Teradata (TDC) announced today the availability of its Teradata 700 appliance for SAS High-Performance Analytics. The new analytic platform is now available as part of an integrated offering, called “SAS High-Performance Analytics for Teradata.” The new offering leverages an exciting approach known as in-memory analytics, which distributes complex analytics in parallel across a vast pool of memory, giving organizations high-speed tools to tap into patterns and insights hidden in large volumes of data. “SAS High-Performance Analytics for Teradata combines superior software for data exploration, model development, and model deployment -- with the powerful new Teradata 700 appliance to help users address business and IT challenges in an integrated system,” said Keith Collins, SAS Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer. “By creating insights that drive consistent answers across the enterprise in a single-purpose appliance, business decisions can be made with greater confidence, accuracy, speed and precision.”
