Data centers are highly-automated facilities, and don’t usually create huge numbers of jobs. State governments offering large incentive packages for data centers argue that landing a large project has a multiplier effect – that huge server farms will attract additional companies and high-tech jobs, creating high-tech ecosystems.
There’s evidence that this strategy is working in North Carolina, which has been among the most aggressive states in pursuing data center projects.
Integrated Electrical Services (IES) said today that it has expanded its physical infrastructure practice to Hillsborough, North Carolina.
“Our leading financial and information technology customers have data centers in the Southeast,” said Don Fishstein, President of IES Communications. This office enables us to enhance our onsite presence with these long-term and expanding customers.”
IES offers data center design and installation, as well as materials warehouse and pre-fabrication for data centers. The new office houses data center design and installation personnel and functions as a materials warehouse and pre-fabrication facility for the surrounding data center installations. The new office supports recent large IES data center projects for customers located in Greensboro, Maiden and Kings Mountain, North Carolina and Boydton, Virginia.
IES [1] didn’t identify the customers, But Apple operates a
data center in Maiden [2] and
Microsoft [3] has a facility in Boydton. Both
Walt Disney [4] and
Wipro [5] have data centers in Kings Mountain.
