Visa's Data Center Has A Moat

USA Today reports that Visa's East Coast Operations Center is protected by a drainage pond "that functions as a modern-day moat." The story doesn't indicate whether the moat is filled with sharks with laser beams on their head.

USA Today has a feature about a visit to Visa's East Coast Operation Center, a highly-secure data center that supports more than 200 million transactions a day for the credit card processor. The article goes into extensive detail about the security systems protecting the facility, including the fact that it's surrounded by a drainage pond "that functions as a modern-day moat." The story doesn't indicate whether the moat is filled with sharks with laser beams on their head.

"The data center's main corridor is about three football fields long, connecting seven 20,000-square-foot rooms called pods," writes USA Today's Jon Swartz. "Two pods contain Visa's core network, a third its corporate networks, and the fourth, development work. A fifth pod handles Visa's new mobile platforms, such as the recently acquired Fundamo, a mobile financial services platform. Two dormant pods await expansion."
