Phoenix NAP is expanding its operations into Europe with a new node in Amsterdam, where it will house infrastructure in a data center operated by Interxion. The move is part of a broader globalization of the operations of Phoenix NAP, which now has many international customers using the infrastructure as a service (IaaS) platform it launched last year from its data center in Phoenix.

The node should be completed during the second quarter of 2012. Phoenix NAP will be offering its public cloud solution, Secured Cloud, and Secured Servers IaaS offering out of the Interxion facility. The company may also offers partial and full colocation racks in the futue.

Phoenix NAP cited the Interxion data center’s location, number of carriers and competitive pricing as key factors in its choice of the Interxion Amsterdam data center.

“We are thrilled with our decision to go with Interxion,” said Ian McClarty, president of Phoenix NAP. “Its strong brand recognition and world-class facility are in line with Phoenix NAP in terms of providing flexible, cost effective solutions while maintaining the highest level of security systems and we look forward to building a strong relationship with the data center.”

Access to Interxion Footprint

"With this initial contract in Amsterdam, Phoenix NAP has further access to high-quality data centre infrastructures across Interxion’s 11 European markets via a one-stop-shop solution," said Michel van den Assem, Managing Director of Interxion Netherlands. "This allows the company to quickly respond to potential new market opportunities and address the growing demand for IaaS solutions from enterprise customers in search of elastic computing resources with predictable performance and costs.”

The new node in Amsterdam is Phoenix NAP's first international expansion, but likely won't be its last. The company has seen strong interest in its IaaS platform from companies in China and South America, and will consider nodes in additional locations as its growth continues.

"It is definitely an exciting time for Phoenix NAP, as we venture out on our first expansion overseas and we are looking forward to what the future will bring," said McLarty.

Interxion  (NYSE: INXN) is a leading European provider of carrier-neutral colocation data centre services, serving over 1,200 customers through 28 data centres in 11 European countries.
