Here’s a roundup of some of this week’s headlines from the cloud computing sector:
Layered Tech adds VMware vCloud. Layered Tech announced  it is adding VMware vCloud Powered services to its existing cloud portfolio to provide enterprises with the advanced functionality they need to easily operate within complex cloud environments. This next generation Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) offering comes with full compliance management, additional scalability and the PCI-DSS and HIPAA IT controls from Layered Tech. “We are expanding Layered Tech’s cloud capabilities to include vCloud Powered services and a next-generation user portal,” said Kevin Van Mondfrans, vice president of product management for Layered Tech. “Layered Tech is leveraging its expertise in delivering complex web application environments and PCI- and HIPAA-compliant cloud hosting services to build next-generation cloud services, which will offer a more robust user experience and enable organizations to rapidly adapt their cloud environments to meet unique business needs.” Layered Tech recently added Compliance Guaranteed to its service-level agreement (SLA).
GoGrid completes SSAE 16 Type II audit. GoGrid announced  that it is one of the first cloud infrastructure providers to successfully complete its SOC 1 Statement of Standards for Attestation Engagements No. 16 (SSAE 16) audit. GoGrid was among the first cloud providers to adopt the new SSAE 16 standard. One of the top audit firms in the US conducted the audit review of GoGrid’s infrastructure, security processes, data management policies, and recovery procedures. ”Successfully completing the SSAE 16 audit demonstrates that we are committed to cloud infrastructure best practices and continually ensure our process management meets the highest industry standards,” said John Keagy, GoGrid’s CEO. “Businesses continue to choose GoGrid because we embrace the changing compliance landscape. Our ability to successfully pass this rigorous, in-depth audit verifies GoGrid has the proper controls and processes in place to deliver the high-quality services our customers expect.”
Dell and Trend Micro Secure the Cloud. Dell announced  the availability of advanced data encryption security services for Dell Cloud with VMware vCloud Data Center Service. Dell’s cloud will will leverage Trend Micro’s cloud security solutions to provide customers a cost-effective and secure enterprise-class solution. The SecureCloud encryption solution is closely integrated with the Dell Cloud with VMware vCloud Datacenter Service, but the encryption keys are managed by Trend Micro and accessible only by Dell customers. “Security is one of the greatest challenges facing public cloud computing and we are pleased to work with companies like Dell that know what it takes to design, build and deploy highly efficient cloud solutions, and are committed to providing the unique needs of the hyperscale computing environment,” said Wael Mohamed, executive vice president of Corporate Strategy and Global Field Operations at Trend Micro. “We are also excited that Dell has selected Trend Micro to be one of its primary security vendors for Dell Cloud Services, further proof that when it comes to cloud security innovation and leadership, Trend Micro is ahead of the game.” The Dell solution is available in U.S. data centers and additional joint product offerings will be available in 2012.
