Here’s our review of today’s noteworthy links for the data center industry:
HP launches ProLiant Gen8 Servers. Hewlett Packard (HPQ) announced the ProLiant Generation 8 (Gen8) line of servers. The Gen8 servers were part of a two year program called Project Voyager, a $300 million effort to automate every aspect of the server life cycle. The resulting HP ProActive Insight architecture has produced over 900 patents spanning the entire HP Converged Infrastructure. Some of the innovations built into the Gen8 servers include integrated lifecycle automation, dynamic workload acceleration, and automated energy optimization. “The skyrocketing cost of operations in the data center is unsustainable, and enterprises are looking to HP to help solve this problem,” said Mark Potter, senior vice president and general manager, Industry standard Servers and Software, HP. “We are delivering innovative intelligence technologies that enable servers to virtually take care of themselves, allowing data center staff to devote more time to business innovation.” HP ProLiant Gen8 servers are available to early-adopter clients today.
Fusion-io selected by Host Europe. Fusion-io (FIO) announced that Host Europe GmbH, a leading European managed cloud service provider and part of the Host Europe Group, has deployed Fusion ioMemory technology in its data centers. Host Europe deployed ioMemory technology to help eliminate virtualized MySQL database bottlenecks, reduce server sprawl and efficiently scale to meet demand. After integrating ioMemory into servers HostEurope was able to realize up to five times more workloads per server for a massively mutiplayer online social game. The Fusion-io platform enabled Host Europe to virtualize multiple databases, resulting in a 30 percent reduction in overall hardware requirements. “Fusion ioMemory maintains consistent performance regardless of database workload fluctuations, even with massively parallel virtual machines and database virtualization,” said Thomas Ebbers, Head of Product Management for Host Europe. ”This allows us to guarantee high service levels to all applications, under any load, so we don’t have to scale out excess infrastructure in anticipation of load spikes that might cause servers to crash or interrupt application service. Our Fusion-io solution will help all of Host Europe’s customers, not only for providing a better service experience, but also because we’ve even been able to offer more competitive pricing to our customers since implementing Fusion-io.”
Arrow ECS launches PeakColo IaaS Solution. PeakColo announced that Arrow Enterprise Computing Solutions has launched an infrastructure-as-a-service framework integrating VMware and NetApp functionality that solution providers can customize and deliver to enterprise and midsize business customers seeking hosted hybrid, private or public cloud services. The white-label solution utilizes PeakColo as a VMware vCloud Powered service provider and its status as a NetApp Global Systems Partner. “This service enables solution providers to sell and provision their own cloud offerings for their customers quickly, easily and profitably,” said Lee Fawcett, vice president of Arrow ECS’ North American Fusion professional services program. “In addition to obviating the expense of building and managing their own cloud infrastructure, this offering, built on PeakColo’s WhiteCloud Service, enables solution providers to maximize profit margins by providing their customers access to VMware licensing and highly efficient NetApp unified storage functionality on a pay-as-you-go basis.”
