Holiday Data Center Cartoon Caption Contest
It’s holiday season and what better way to enjoy it than with a data center holiday cartoon. Kip and Gary are back, and Kip is rocking his favorite Christmas sweater while enjoying the cold aisle.
Here’s how it works: We provide the cartoon, drawn by our cartoonist Diane Alber, and you, the reader, submit captions. Please add them in the comments below. We will then choose three finalists and you will have a chance to vote on your favorite. The winner will receive their caption in a signed print by Diane!
For more of Diane’s work, visit www.kipandgary.com.
Last Week’s Winner
Congrats to Mike, last week’s winner for the EPO cartoon, who had submitted the winning caption: “Ooh – I just love these new automatic doors that have the Easy Power Opening technology.”

“Judging from the red light on the front, this reindeer has a failed hard drive.”
Gary meet our new data center engineer, Rudolf. With the help of his magical red nose he will help us identify energy inefficiencies.

What? “Lights out” means no “people”!
Dude, just like everybody else. Got that deer in the hard drive look.
Well you said you wanted new racks this one is used to running in cooler temps
Joe SPosted December 22nd, 2011
Well Gary – I got what you asked for. A standalone rack with integrated alarm bells and a warning light.
ChrisPosted December 22nd, 2011
Hey Gary, check out the latest green, rack mount that just came out….
“Yup, we’re talking state-of-the-art DCIM. He comes with audible and visual alarm notification and he’s fast—he can span continents in the blink of an eye.”
Yeah, I found him in our new biomass power plant, he looked a bit bored so I thought I’d show him around!
Running no-lights and Rudolf on the data floor will really help our PUE!
I know we have cages but you’re taking Christmas too far!
I said the servers were “dear” not “deer”!

Santa did get you a Vixen.
His antlers are great at multi-patching!
Michael SPosted December 23rd, 2011
…And the best part is that he’s used to working Christmas night…without getting holiday pay!
Natalija PavicPosted December 23rd, 2011
“Since we couldn’t find our way through all the cables, I thought Rudolph could light our path”
Bill LPosted December 23rd, 2011
… and with this widespread unemployment, can anyone Verify his H-1B ?
“After watching his nose closely I realized he was communicating in binary. We could use his help around here”
ElizabethPosted December 23rd, 2011
“Well, our budget is never going to have room for new fiber optic test equipment. So, Rudy here is going to help me find that faulty fiber strand!”
Wayne BarkerPosted December 23rd, 2011
Rudolf is here to check out Santa’s naughty and nice servers.

Hey, think is good enough to win the “Most into Christmas” category at the company party?
Jason TPosted December 28th, 2011
“Clean up in isle three.”
KaraPosted December 29th, 2011
I thought this place needed a little more Christmas spirit!

With global warming and all, the coldest place Santa could think of to house the reindeer was here in the Data Center.
