StrataScale Readies Expansion Site in Virginia

Cloud hosting provider StrataScale, Inc. has begun lining up customers for its new data center in Ashburn, Virginia, the company said this week.

Cloud hosting provider StrataScale, Inc. has begun lining up customers for its new data center in Ashburn, Virginia, the company said this week. The new 140,000 square foot facility is part of a major geographic expansion for StrataScale and its parent company, RagingWire Enterprise Solutions, which currently deliver their services from a pair of data centers in Sacramento, Calif.

StrataScale said the site in Ashburn, a major connectivity and data center hub in northern Virginia, will offer better service for its East Coast customers while providing additional capacity to support the company’s growth. Scheduled for completion during the second quarter of 2012, the new facility will include more than 70,000 square feet of raised floor space and supply up to 14.4 megawatts of power.

"Our East Coast clients have been asking for more capacity, and we expect to be able to fully meet that demand," said Douglas Adams, StrataScale’s vice president of sales and marketing. "With this new facility we’re positioning ourselves, and our customers, for significant growth."

One of the customers in the new Ashburn facility will be the Jane Goodall Institute (JGI), a nonprofit based in Arlington, Va. founded by renowned primatologist Dr. Jane Goodall. The international conservation and education organization is consolidating its IT systems onto dedicated StrataScale enterprise servers. "By combining our mission-critical IT systems, StrataScale is enabling JGI to focus on crucial programmatic priorities," said JGI’s IT Director Christopher Wallace.

Founded in 2007 as the cloud computing business of RagingWire, StrataScale focuses on cloud solutions for managed service providers, game developers and publishers, IT integrators and software as a service (SaaS) providers.
