The Top 10 Supercomputers, Illustrated, Nov. 2011 - The twice-a-year list of the Top 500 supercomputers documents the most powerful systems on the planet. Many of these supercomputers are striking not just for their processing power, but for their design and appearance as well. Here’s a look at the top finishers in the latest Top 500 list, which was released this week at the SC11 conference in Seattle.
Submerged Servers Can Now Heat Your Office - Green Revolution Cooling says it has adapted its liquid immersion cooling system to recapture server heat, using it to heat water for climate control systems in nearby buildings. The Austin, Texas company says one of its systems installed at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm will reliably produce water at a temperature of 50°C (about 122°F), hot enough to pump to surrounding buildings for building heat.
In Sweden, Cool Design Meets Cool Climate - As Sweden celebrates the recent announcement that a new Facebook data center will be built in Lulea, one of the country’s data center visionaries was outlining an alternative vision in which Sweden’s cool climate embraces cool design. Jon Karlung is the CEO of Modular Data Centers Stockholm, a new company formed to provide pre-fabricated modules to deploy IT capacity.
Telx Builds Custom Colo Center in North Jersey - Colocation and interconnection service provider Telx today announced plans for its first “greenfield” data center project, a 215,000 square foot facility it is building in Clifton, New Jersey adjacent to its existing site at the Mountain Technology Center at 100 Delawanna Avenue.
Hines REIT Buys Fisher Plaza for $160 Million - Hines Global REIT has entered into a definitive agreement to purchase the Fisher Plaza data center hub in Seattle from owner Fisher Communications for $160 million, the companies said Thursday.
