Data center insight and control is typically the domain of several dedicated staffers mapping the operation via Excel spreadsheets and Visio. Once beyond 50 – 75 racks this type of management is not practical given all the considerations for optimization. These considerations include controlling expenses, best utilization of resources and extending the life of equipment. A DCIM solution can help unify the efforts of the three main domains (Facilities, Networking and Systems) charged with this optimization.

This whitepaper is a DCIM primer but it goes beyond the “what is...” to explain the practical why and how through a concise explanation including a checklist of questions that will enhance the data center professional’s understanding of the technology.
