Open source software company Red Hat announced today it was purchasing Gluster, an open source cloud storage solution. In June, Data Center Knowledge spoke with Tom Trainer, Director of Product Marketing for Gluster, at the GigaOm Structure conference at UCSF – Mission Bay in San Francisco. Trainer explains that Gluster is an open-source, elastic, scale-out storage software that runs on commodity hardware. This storage software is separate from the hardware appliance, so it can run on any commodity hardware as well as on cloud infrastructure, such as Amazon Web Services. It provides the storage behind the music service, Pandora, as well as media site, Bright Cove. Gluster supports OpenStack . This message from the Gluster founders to the community tells why the sold the company to Red Hat. This video runs about 5 minutes, 30 seconds.
