INetU is offering a Gated Cloud Community for enterprise users focused on security and performance.
One of the challenges with public clouds is the prospect that activity by other users could impact the performance of your application. Managed hosting provider INetU has a solution: an exclusive cloud that can keep the resource hogs out.
INetU this week announced a "Gated Community Cloud" service designed to offer the benefits of the public cloud without some of the risks. “The downside to a typical public cloud is that you don’t know who your virtual neighbors are,” said Dev Chanchani, president of INetU. "With our Gated Community Cloud, only serious businesses get exclusive access to the infrastructure, which offers our clients a safe and reliable enterprise-centric Cloud environment."
The Provider as Gatekeeper
INetU, which is based in Allentown, Pa., is playing the role of gatekeeper and security manager. "Gated Community Cloud clientele are managed solely within INetU and we take the responsibility for assigning resources," says Chanchani. "This keeps our clients' trust in us high and maintains the confidentiality they expect."
The new service is designed to appeal to enterprise users seeking to strike a balance with their cloud computing strategy. With its gated community concept, iNetU is establishing a middle ground between public clouds and private clouds. This approach addresses some of the enterprise concerns about security and performance, but stops short of the dedicated hardware seen in private clouds.
Even gated communities have their risks, as Tiger Woods' neighbors could tell you. How will iNetU police the community? "Our consultative on-boarding process is in place for every client, new or existing," said Chanchani. "Gated Community Cloud will not be right for everyone, but for most businesses that depend on their web presence or application as a critical part of their model, INetU will have a desirable solution for them."
What happens if an existing gated community user has a traffic spike? INetU says the service will be closely monitored to identify issues. "INetU engineering relies on 24/7 deep monitoring of the entire Gated Community Cloud, which allows us to react quickly to the needs of our clients or to the needs of the entire Gated Community Cloud," Chanchani said.
