Oracle unveils Oracle VM 3.0. Oracle (ORCL) announced Oracle VM 3.0, the latest release of Oracle's server virtualization and management solution. The new release features new policy-based management capabilities, advanced storage management, and Open Virtualization Format (OVF) support. It supports up to 128 virtual CPUs per virtual machine and has been demonstrated on the Sun Fire X4800 M2 server running up to 160 physical CPUs and 2TB of memory. When compared to VMware vSphere5 running Red Hat Enterprise Linux guest VMs, Oracle VM 3.0 running Oracle Linux guest VMs is four times less expensive. Key new features in 3.0 include a storage connect plug-in framework, centralized network configuration and management, improved ease-of-use, advanced policy-based management capabilities and support of the Open Virtualization Format. “Over time, we expect that enterprises will need to deliver internal IT resources more like an external service provider would, allowing for rapid deployment and efficient management of business critical applications,” said Al Gillen, program vice president, System Software, IDC. “By using application centric virtualization solutions like Oracle VM 3.0, organizations are deploying a strong foundation that will support an operational transformation in their datacenters, when the time is right for their business.”
Vyatta releases Network OS 6.3. Software-based networking company Vyatta announced the availability of Vyatta Network OS 6.3. This release advances Vyatta’s routing, network security and content inspection and expands usage with custom packages for Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud and Red Hat Kernel-Based Virtual Machine (KVM) hypervisors. “The complete, enterprise-class feature set of Vyatta Network OS, combined with the expanding platform and driver support, reinforces Vyatta’s position as the industry leader of on-demand networking software for virtual networks,” said Tom McCafferty, vice president of marketing at Vyatta. Additional features include IPSec VPN and OpenVPN enhancements, Upgraded Snort Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) from SourceFire, image upgrade improvements, new CLI commands and new web-based management interface.
PEER 1 completes SSAE 16 Type II and CSAE 3416. PEER 1 Hosting announced it has successfully completed two independent audits this year, the Standards for Attestation Engagements 16 (SSAE 16) Type II and Canadian Standard on Assurance Engagements 3416 (CSAE 3416). The audits assure PEER 1 Hosting’s controls, processes and procedures adhere to industry best practices. "This is an important milestone for PEER 1 Hosting.
