One of China's fastest supercomputers recently went into operation at the national Changsha supercomputer center in Hunan. Named Tianhe No.1, this supercomputer can perform 1.1 petaflops per second and will be assisting scientists and researchers in areas such as weather forecasting, auto manufacturing, and medical research. The performance of the supercomputer will be increased to 3 petaflops by the end of this year. The Chinese now have 61 supercomputers on the world's Top 500 list.
