Tim O’Reilly: Why Internet Performance Matters

In his keynote at the recent Velocity conference, Tim O’Reilly discussed the importance of Internet infrastructure to the future of the Internet and society. The idea for Velocity, O”Reilly recalled, came from a need to gather the “tribe” of web developers and operations teams to share their expertise . “It was really clear that in this community, there was ths depth of knowledge that was really important for the future,” O”Reilly says. “We haven’t seen anything yet. This model of cloud-connected intelligence is the future of our entire society. There will be scale so far beyond what we have built so far. This community is at the heart of something big.” It’s essential watching for those who work in the sector. This video runs abut 10 minutes.

  1. being in the industry I shouldn't worry about this stuff... the more people say "cloud intelligence and speed is the model for future society" the more I think of George Orwell's 1984 and the terminator movies
